Musical Boomers Opens at McClellan's Zannie Theatre May 12

Actors, singers and theater technicians from Jacksonville are helping to make Boomers one of CAST Theatre's (Community Actors' Studio Theatre) liveliest productions. Boomers, opening this Thursday, May 12, at Zannie Theatre at McClellan, is a musical journey through the 1950s and 1960s created by JSU alumna Kimberley Dobbs of Anniston and Michael Fauss of Atlanta.

In the cast are Sara Adams, Denise Davis and Josh Sirten of Jacksonville; and on the staff are Pati Tiller, stage manager, David Montgomery, construction, Don Calvert, light designer, and Rocky Tejada, associate musical director, also of Jacksonville. Sirten and Tejada are students at JSU. The musical direction is by Michael Fauss. Also in the cast are Steve Campbell of Oxford, Vivian J. Davis, Heather Garlick, Jon Garlick and Michelle Lawton of Anniston, and Laney Gibbs and Caryl Stahl of Weaver.

Boomers is a musical journey through the 1950s and 1960s which recalls memories for baby boomers and provides a look into these years of be-bop, sock hops and later, ballads by The Mamas and The Papas, for the younger generation. "Boomers", a musical revue, takes viewers on a nostalgic trip with stops at "The Mickey Mouse Club" and "I Love Lucy" and briefly into the lives of Elvis and The Beatles, with a splash of Sonny and Cher, a dash of James Brown, a double dose of Tina Turner and a generous helping of Motown, according to Dobbs.

Adding to the excitement of live theater will be the new performance venue for CAST. The renovated 250-seat Zannie Theatre at Buckner Center can be reached from Alabama Highway 21 by turning into Baltzell Gate, continuing down Baltzell Gate Road, turn right just before getting to the fire station, then take the next left which takes you to the theater.

The musical runs for two weekends. Production dates are May 12, 13, 14 and 19, 20, and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and May 15 and 22 at 2 p.m. For reservations, call 256 237-2827.
