JSU Winter Guard Wins SCGC & Alabama State Championships - Again!

11 April 2005 — In its seventh year of existence, the four-time Southeastern Color Guard Circuit Independent A Class Champions -- JSU Center Stage Winter Guard -- has taken the 2005 championships by storm, capturing their fifth gold medal with a final score of 90.9, which was over four points above the second-place contender. This year’s win makes Jacksonville State University a record-breaking five-time SCGC gold medallist.

The competition this year was held at the McKenzie Arena on the campus of University of Tennessee-Chattanooga (UTC) and included collegiate color guards such as UTC, Georgia Tech, University of Alabama Birmingham, Georgia Southern, and many others.

The JSU Center Stage Winter Guard is under the direction/ instruction of admissions counselor Rodney Bailey, who established the winter guard program in 1998. Since its inception, the winter guard has received several awards on the local and national level. These awards include, but are not limited to, 1999 South Regional Independent A Class Gold Medallist, The 2000 Indianapolis Regional Independent A Class Gold Medallist, the 2004 Mid South Regional Independent A Class Gold Medallist, the 2005 South Power Regional Gold Medallist and a 1999, 2001, and 2004 Winter Guard International World Championship Independent A Class Finalist. The JSU Center Stage Winter Guard is also the 2004 and 2005 Alabama State Collegiate champions.
