15 March 2005 — Jacksonville State University senior David McRee of Harvest was recently awarded the Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award for outstanding grades as he pursues a bachelor of science in finance.

“Studying pays off,” said Mr. McRee. “Nothing is free, and I feel like my studies will help me get a good job.”

Studying in high school paid off for Mr. McRee. His counselor at Sparkman High School, Mr. Roger Hillis, recommended JSU to Mr. McRee after he received a high score on his ACT. He received a half-tuition scholarship.

While attending JSU, Mr. McRee has been active in the Baptist Campus Ministries and the Financial Management Association. He said his experience at JSU has been a positive one, and he has made many friends.

In addition to the recognition given to him by the Wall Street Journal, he received a year’s subscription and brass paper weight.
