Holocaust Commemoration to be Held March 31

11 March 2005 — The annual Jacksonville State University memorial commemoration of the Holocaust of World War II will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 at Stone Center Theater.

The keynote speaker will be Mrs. Riva Hirsch of Birmingham, a survivor of the concentration camps in Eastern Europe and two forced marches. Hirsch was seven years old when the Germans overran Ukraine. While trying to reach the safety of her grandparents' home, she and her family were captured by the Nazis. Her mother and father, along with her brothers, were killed.

Others participating in the event, which is sponsored by JSU's Student Government Association, are from the university community and the community at large. The public is invited.

The Holocaust Commemoration began as a project of the Wesley Foundation in 1982.
