2 March 2005 — Assistant Librarian and Associate Professor Linda Cain was honored Monday for her 22 years of service to Jacksonville State University's Student Government Association and the Holocaust Memorial Committee. She has served both as a member of the committee and as its head.

“You are very kind,” said Ms. Cain when presented a plaque honoring her service by the 2005 committee chair, Ms. Diana Cadwallader. “It was worth every minute, and I have great assurance things will continue to go well.”

Ms. Cain's plaque was presented by Emily Williams, president of the SGA.

The presentation was made during a meeting of the committee. After the meeting, charter member of the committee, Dr. Steve Whitton, spoke about Ms. Cain’s long service.

“When she was head of the committee,” he said, “everything was done with expertise and authority. We were lucky to have her.”

The annual memorial is important to Ms. Cain and to the committee because of its educational benefits and its reminder that the world needs to work to avoid a repeat of its atrocities.

Ms. Cadwallader announced that this year’s memorial service will be on March 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Stone Center with speaker Riva Hirsch. More information will be forthcoming soon.
