University Police to Host Bicycle Safety Course

1 March 2005 — The Calhoun Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will sponsor a free bicycle safety course at the University Police Department on April 2, 2005 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.  All ages are encouraged to attend.

Proper bicycle maintenance will be taught, along with how to choose the proper bike and why it is important to fully understand the “Rules Of The Road”.  Dr. Carlton Jones, a longtime advocate of using the bicycle as an alternate means of transportation, will conduct the course. He endorses using the bicycle for enjoyment also.

Dr. Jones is a safety instructor certified by the League of American Bicyclists. He also works closely with the Alabama Bicycle Coalition, called AlaBike, which is the state's bicycle advocacy coalition. He will also inspect bicycles for anyone who brings theirs to class.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with the Calhoun Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and hope to continue the partnership in the future.  The bicycle safety class is being offered at no cost to the public”, said Corporal Neil Fetner.

To sign up for the Bicycle Safety Training class, please contact Sgt. Carl Preuninger at 256-782-5709.   You can also sign up by e-mailing your name and phone number to preuninger@jsu.edu.
