Concert Held as Memorial


Organist Jamie McLemore

January 19, 2005 -- On February 6, the Chancel Choir of the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville will honor five former JSU faculty/staff and others by hosting the Memorial Hymn Festival and Organ Concert at 3 p.m. Featured on the organ will be Jamie McLemore, a renowned Birmingham organist.  Being honored are members of the church who are deceased. They are Mrs. Sharon Dempsey, Dr. Bill Koehler, Dr. Gaston Calvert, and Dr. John Van Cleave, all former professors, and Mrs. Clifford Coffee, who was affiliated with the JSU news staff and the Mimosa yearbook staff.  

The free concert will feature Mr. McLemore, who is a recording artist and well known organist. He will perform on the Renaissance Allen organ, which the church acquired in 2002.  Mr. McLemore is organist at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Homewood. He performs on the Briarwood Choir recordings and is accompanist for the Lee Scott Singers, which has an upcoming recording this fall. He was a student of adjunct professor Susie Francis Dempsey and graduated from the University of Alabama. Mr. McLemore is affiliated with Forbes Piano & Organ Co. of Homewood and sells instruments for Allen Organ Co.

Others honored will be Mrs. Jean Anderson, Mrs. Marion Currier, Mr. Dick Lynch, Mr. Joe Potts, and Miss Dorothy Roszell.
