Miss JSU Pageant Saturday, January 15

12 January, 2005 — The Miss JSU pageant will be Saturday, January 15 at 7 p.m. at Leone Cole Auditorium. More than $10,000 in scholarships and prizes will be awarded. The winner will represent JSU at the Miss Alabama Pageant in June.

Miss Shannon Camper, the reigning Miss Alabama, and Teresa Stricklin, assistant professor of voice at JSU and Miss Alabama 1978, will be emceeing the pageant. Shannon is from Gadsden, AL and is the daughter of Larry and Sarah Camper. She is a senior at the University of Alabama. Shannon has dedicated the past six years to community service through her "Think Pink" program, a breast-cancer awareness campaign. By dedicating more than 100 hours per year and helping raise more than $96,000 for research, Shannon has made real the seriousness of breast cancer to Alabama's young men and women.

The 10 contestants include Stacie Hill, of Moody, AL, whose major is Elementary Education and talent competition is Dance; Bryanna Nelms, Tuscaloosa, AL, Criminal Justice, piano; Allison Land, Marietta, GA, Communication, Character Vocal; Jennifer Gilbert, Gadsden, AL, Elementary Education, Vocal; Rachel Hulsey, Fruithurst, AL, Biology/Psychology, Dance; Candace Coleman, Gadsden, AL, Music Education, Violin; Kristian Crowe, Oxford, AL, Music Education, Vocal; Amara Chekwa, Birmingham, AL, Graphic Design, Dance; Bethany Garrad, Boaz, AL, Communication, Piano; Jessica Andrews, Alabaster, AL, Elementary Education, Dance.

The cost is $5 for faculty and students (bring ID) and $7 for the general public.
