April 23, 2004 -- Ann Wells, the director of Jacksonville State University's Department of Continuing Education, received a top honor for the Department Monday, April 19, in Atlanta.

Well's honor is called the 2004 Distinguished Program Award for Non-credit Programs. This award is presented by Region VII of the Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE). Staff resources from all three universities are involved in the program development, marketing, and maintenance of the programs.

The award recognized her outstanding efforts in working with the University Partnership for Alabama Continuing Education (UPACE). The Partnership combines training efforts by JSU, Troy State University Dothan, and the University of North Alabama in developing and delivering certificate programs for the Association of County Administrators, the Association of County Engineers, and the Alabama Association of Police Chiefs. Added in April was the Certified Revenue Officers Association.

The program's design will possibly be used as a template for developing similar programs.
