Psychological Study of Drivers

Michael Clayton, Jacksonville State University professor of psychology, far right, and psychology graduate students are currently conducting a study on driving behavior. They will be observing individuals in automobiles and taking note of typical driving behaviors. They are shown here observing individuals who used a cell phone while driving. They also tallied how many individuals they could persuade to hang up their cell phones by displaying a sign stating, "Please hang up! I care." Individuals who did in fact hang up their cell phones were rewarded with the reverse side of the sign that simply said "Thank you!" Dr. Clayton and his team will be observing individuals for other behavior patterns until Spring Break at the intersection where University Circle exits onto Pelham Rd.
