Social Work Program Reaccredited for Eight Years

June 24, 2004 — The National Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) reaccredited Jacksonville State University’s Social Work Program.

JSU President Bill Meehan recently received notification from Dr. Stephen Holloway, chair of the Commission. The reaccreditation is for eight years.

Dr. Mark Fagan, head of the University’s Department of Sociology and Social Work, said the latest reaccreditation is the program’s second, the initial accreditation being in 1992 and retroactive to 1988. The first reaccreditation took place in 1996.

"I would like to thank President Meehan, Vice President Turner, and Dean Wade for their continued support,” said Dr. Fagan. He said the Program has graduated about 800 students since 1988 and has more social work majors than any university in the state.

“We are very pleased that CSWE has recognized our program as having many strengths,” said Dr. Fagan. He also expressed appreciation for the faculty and staff whose commitment to the program made the reaccreditation possible.
