Alumnus Roger Putnam Named BHS Trustee

May 13, 2004 -- Birmingham-based Baptist Health System has named Jacksonville State University alumnus Roger Putnam to its board of trustees.

An Alagasco vice president for technical services, Putnam has "expertise in business management and [a] strong record of community service," Baptist interim chairman Aubrey Miller says in a statement accompanying a release announcing Putnam's appointment.

Putnam has been with the natural gas distributor since 1984. The Gadsden native earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Auburn and a master's degree in business administration from Jacksonville State University. He now lives in Vestavia Hills.

Baptist is reconstituting its board after months of turmoil in which a former board chairman resigned and another was forced out. The board shuffle follows canceled talks that involved selling the hospital to a proprietary hospital company or forming a joint venture.
