National Park Service Offers Summer Jobs for Students at Little River Canyon

The National Park Service is looking for four students to work at Little River Canyon National Preserve during the summer of 2004. The primary responsibilities for three positions will include collecting fees and presenting educational programs at Canyon Mouth Day Use Area near Cedar Bluff, Alabama. A fourth position works with the maintenance division, picking up trash, mowing lawns and other duties.  The positions will pay $10 to $11 per hour.  We are seeking individuals with experience in dealing with the public and handling money.  Spanish bilingual applicants are especially needed due to the large number of Hispanic park visitors.  John Bundy, Park Superintendent, and Larry Beane, Park Interpreter, will  accept applications and conduct interviews.  Call Larry or John for more information at 256-845-9605.

REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be students in good standing registered as at least half time students for the fall semester.  A transcript and a letter from the university stating that the student is registered for the fall as half time or more and that they are a student in good standing is required before hiring.   Graduating seniors must be enrolled at least half time for the fall semester also. 

Preference will be given for work experience, ability to speak Spanish, and to Juniors or Seniors.

ABOUT THE JOBS: These positions are not eligible for insurance or retirement.  These positions will be entitled to accrue Sick Leave and Annual Leave.   Weekends will be the busiest time.  Shifts may vary and be early and late.  Morning Shifts may begin as early as 7:00 AM, afternoon shifts may end as late as 8:00 PM.  Some overtime may be required.
