April 7, 2004 -- Jacksonville State University's Department of Continuing Education received notice that the University Partnership for Alabama Continuing Education (UPACE) program won a top honor for the training of county officials statewide.

Ann Wells is director of JSU's continuing education program, and it was her nomination of the program that resulted in the award, which is called the 2004 Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE) Region VII Distinguished Program Award for a noncredit program.

The program, which combines JSU's efforts with Troy State University in Dothan and the University of North Alabama in Florence, won for its outstanding quality and scope of UPACE and for its possible use as a possible template for developing similar programs.

The award will be given at ACHE's Annual Conference in Atlanta on April 19.

Since the inception of UPACE, it has provided ongoing training for sheriffs, county engineers, and county revenue officials.
