Highway 204 Detour To Slow Commute to JSU

February 4, 2004 -- A dangerously narrow bridge spanning Tallasseehatchee Creek just west of Jacksonville on Alabama 204, which has been the scene of numerous accidents and some fatalities, is scheduled for replacement beginning soon by the Department of Transportation.

Traffic will be detoured three miles around the construction site. Traffic on the east side of the bridge will be routed onto Broadwell Mill Road, Cedar Springs Drive and then West Point Road before rejoining Highway 204 near the Angel community.

Detour signs will be placed as soon as the work begins. The construction will take about a year and will provide a bridge with wider shoulders.
