LTC (Ret.) Charles B. Pickette Reelected as President of ROTC Alumni Chapter


January 14, 2004 -- Lieutenant Colonel Bruce Pickette (Ret.) of Montgomery, originally of Weaver, AL, was recently reelected president of the Jacksonville State University ROTC Alumni Chapter.

Lieutenant Colonel Pickette is a 1964 graduate of Jacksonville High School and a 1968 graduate of Jacksonville State University. While in the ROTC program he was a merit ROTC scholarship cadet, a member of the Scabbard and Blade, and held various positions in the Pershing Rifles, including unit commander. He holds master’s degrees from the New York Institute of Technology and Catholic University of America. He is a graduate of the Signal Officers Basic and Advanced Courses, the Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College.

He served in a variety of tactical and fixed-station communications assignments in the Canal Zone, Vietnam, Hawaii, and Fort Bragg. Returning to the United States after a tour with NATO, he concluded his military career in the Washington, D.C. area as a communications staff officer in joint agencies and as an Army Staff Officer in Headquarters, Department of the Army. He retired from the military in 1992 after 24 years of service. Upon military retirement, he joined a private information technology firm and continues to be employed in that field. He is part of a team that develops a computerized maintenance management system.

Some of his awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Army Commendation Medal.

Bruce and his wife, Rita, live in Montgomery. They have one daughter, Laura, who attended Jacksonville State University and is now a teacher in Montana, and a son, Gregory, who is an F-15 pilot in the Air Force.
