Clint Carlson Named VPABA

April 29, 2003 -- Jacksonville State University's new vice president for administrative and business affairs brings more than 25 years of financial experience in the areas of business, government and higher education.

Clint Carlson II of Troy will assume the role on July 1, filling a post vacated by Don Thacker, who retired.

Since 1998 Carlson has served as vice president of financial affairs for the Troy State University System, overseeing such areas as financial planning, human resources, physical plant and purchasing. He also serves as treasurer of the TSU Foundation.

JSU President Bill Meehan said, "Mr. Carlson has had experience in every significant aspect of higher education financial affairs and we are pleased to welcome him aboard."

Upon accepting the job, Carlson said, "I am honored that Dr. Meehan has asked me to join the JSU family as a member of his administrative team. JSU has a great group of people and I look forward to working with them in addressing University challenges. My wife and children are excited about establishing new friendships in the community."

Carlson joined Troy State in 1998 and before that worked at Clemson University in South Carolina from 1992 to 1998 as director of managerial accounting and later as director of accounts payable. He also served as acting secretary / treasurer and assistant treasurer of the Clemson University Research Foundation.

From 1984 to 1992 he worked as a consultant and manager in public accounting for Grant Thornton in Atlanta, where he was responsible for project management and deliverables. Carlson served as an accounting officer for the Georgia Secretary of State from 1982 to 1983.

He worked as a project consultant for the Georgia Department of Administrative Services in Atlanta from 1980 to 1982, and as an auditor for the Georgia Department of Transportation from 1978 to 1980.

Carlson has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1983. He holds a bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern and a master's degree from Clemson University, both in accounting.
