CBA Program Features IBM Executive Consultant Carolyn Baird


March 31, 2003 -- Carolyn Baird will speak on Wednesday, April 2, at 2:00 p.m. in the College of Commerce and Business Administration auditorium. She will be discussing Internet Branding and Content.

As an Executive Consultant with IBM’s Experience Strategy and Design Practice, Carolyn Heller Baird brings nearly 20 years experience in content strategy and development, user experience design, branding, marketing, and corporate communications to the interactive digital space. Her experience spans all media--from the Internet and multimedia applications to video, audio, and print--affording her the perspective to create winning content strategies across multiple touchpoints for a variety of audiences. These content solutions range from end-to-end strategic approaches for the creation and maintenance of branded, user-centric content, to governance, workflow and process design, content syndication strategies, localization strategies, and editorial development.

One of the ground-floor team leaders who grew the Creative Studio concept for IBM, Ms. Baird founded and managed the Content Strategy department for IBM’s Innovation Center in Atlanta, bringing to IBM’s e-business portfolio content and branding solutions for interactive digital applications. As the practice grew internationally to 17 locations, Ms. Baird took on the responsibility of Global Competency Leader, working with IBM Content Strategists and clients worldwide. During her tenure at IBM, she has created and overseen the content strategies for numerous user experience design projects for Fortune 500 companies that span a variety of industries. She has won multiple IBM leadership awards and was the first Content Strategist to receive IBM Certification.

Prior to joining IBM in 1996, Ms. Baird worked for communications firms in Atlanta, Georgia where she wore many hats through the course of her career, including: creative director, managing editor, copywriter, scriptwriter, and technical writer. She also has published a children’s book, The Ghosts of Devil’s Marsh.

Ms. Baird is a member of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), TAG’s Women in Technology Society, and The Interactive Media Alliance. She is also a member of the Society for Technical Communications (STC). She has given numerous presentations on Content Strategy and Development both to clients and at industry conferences.

Ms. Baird holds a B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University--Creative Writing and Professional Writing (double major).
