Tips on Preventing Auto Burglaries

JACKSONVILLE -- June 11, 2002 -- According to the University Police, there has been a recent increase in the reported number of auto burglaries.

Everyone can take simple steps to avoid becoming a crime victim. When parking your vehicle, you should remove any valuables and lock your doors. Most thefts are opportunity thefts that can be prevented by just locking the vehicle and removing valuables from view.

When expensive equipment is installed in your car, remember to record the serial number or keep the manufacture's warranty card. This information enables police to track stolen property. If you see suspicious activity in parking areas, please notify campus or Jacksonville police immediately.

Crime report information can be viewed at the UPD web site at: http://www.jsu.edu/depart/upd/statistics.html.
