JACKSONVILLE -- June 5, 2002 -- Jacksonville State University’s Drama department wraps up its 2001-2002 theater season with the domestic comedy The Male Animal, running June 20 through 23 at the Ernest Stone Center for the Performing Arts.

The play, written by the late humorists James Thurber and his friend Elliott Nugent, relates the troubles of Tommy Turner, an English professor at a Midwestern university whose wife’s old flame shows up for Homecoming weekend, around the same time that Tommy lands smack into the middle of a controversy regarding academic freedoms.

The play will be directed by Dr. Wayne Claeren, professor of drama at JSU. Claeren was recently recognized at a Faulty Award reception as a Faculty Scholar Lecturer for his work on the JSU production of The Late Mr. Shakespeare.
