Alex Baker To Deliver Spring Commencement Address


JACKSONVILLE -- April 18, 2002 -- Alex D. Baker, a 1976 graduate of Jacksonville State University and a graduate of the Institute of Organizational Management at Terry School of Business at Georgia Tech, will deliver the spring commencement address at JSU.

Commencement is in Paul Snow Stadium on Friday, April 26, 2002, at 6:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to Pete Mathews Coliseum. Seating at Pete Mathews Coliseum is limited, and each graduate will be issued six tickets for guests to attend commencement. Graduates needing fewer than six tickets are asked to request only the number needed. Only those visitors with tickets to commencement will be admitted to the ceremony in the coliseum. Tickets to commencement will be distributed at rehearsal on April 26 at 1:30 p.m.

Baker is CEO of AIG Baker Shopping Center Properties, LLC, which is the most active privately held retail development company in the country. His company has developed and owned real estate in 36 states and has developed in excess of 40 million square feet of retail properties throughout those states. AIG Baker is currently developing two to three million square feet of property each year and is developing in South Carolina, Georgia, Nevada, Virginia, Colorado, New Jersey, Alabama, Florida, Kansas, Pennsylvania, California and Michigan.

Baker entered into a partnership with American International Group, Inc. (AIG) to form AIG Baker. AIG is the leading US-based international insurance organization and the largest underwriter of commercial and industrial coverage in the US. Baker is a native of Trion, Ga., is married to Suzy Baker, and is the father of four children.
