JACKSONVILLE -- March 20, 2002 -- Jacksonville State University’s College of Education and Professional Studies will be hosting a multicultural workshop for currently-enrolled education interns on March 22 in Leone Cole Auditorium from 1:00 until 3:30 p.m.

There will be 206 interns in attendance as well as students from Ragland High School. Ragland High School has recently begun a multicultural program at their school and has been helpful to JSU's interns.

Leslie Cash, a current JSU intern in education, began her experience at Ragland in January, and during her first few months there she has participated in several multicultural activities and projects. For Black History Month, she helped students with a bulletin board that revealed to others the importance of the African American heritage. This month the students put together a word board, which consists of multicultural words and their meanings.

Students from Ragland High School also took part in Reading Across America campaign. Participants went to the elementary school and read to the classes.

On March 22, Leslie and some students from Ragland High School will converge on JSU to give a presentation of the success of their multicultural program. Other JSU speakers at this event will be Dr. John Ketterer of the International House, Dr. Noureddine Bekhouche of the techology department, and Dee Johnston of Disability Support Services.
