Services for Dr. Rayford B. Taylor


JACKSONVILLE -- January 4, 2002 -- Services for Dr. Rayford Boles Taylor, 64, of Piedmont were scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. at Mickelsen-McGee Funeral Home with Rev. Leeann Scarbrough officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Dr. Taylor died at his home.

Survivors include four aunts, Myrtle Johnson, Emmea Carter and Evelyn Taylor, all of Georgia and Beatrice Boles of Piedmont; an uncle, Maurice Boles of Piedmont; and 11 cousins, Jo Ann Shell, Jeanette Clack, Karen Thomas, Karl Johnson, Sarah Taylor, Linda Taylor, Pamela Taylor, Brigetter Taylor, all of Georgia, Elaine Boles of Jacksonville, Earl Boles of Piedmont and Raymond Boles of Boaz.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Wingo, Peter Robinson, Dan Hollis, Hunter Youngblade, Steven Turner and Todd Campbell.

Dr. Taylor had lived in Piedmont most of his life. He had been a professor at Jacksonville State University for 39 years and was a well-known historian. He attended the University of Georgia, the University of Birmingham and the University of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ruth Taylor.
