University Police Conduct
Traffic Safety Blitz

JACKSONVILLE -- May 21, 2001 -- Jacksonville State University Police will be participating in a Memorial Day seat belt enforcement program called ''Click it or Ticket'' from May 21 through June 3.

Officers will conduct seat belt compliance checks and look for seat belt and driver's license compliance along with vehicle insurance and registration verification.

University Police will have checkpoints at various times around the JSU campus. At the same time, other agencies will focus on state and county roads and interstates throughout the region.

Seat belt compliance checks will include children under the age of four, who must be secured in a child restraint device. Children under the age of six must be secured in a child restraint system, and all front seat occupants must be wearing seat belts.

If violations are found regarding seat belt laws, the law enforcement officer must issue a citation. During this blitz only sworn law enforcement officers will participate. All officers at the checkpoints will be in uniform and operating marked police cars.

Similar traffic safety blitz's are scheduled for the Independence Day and Labor Day Holidays.
