Phi Beta Kappa Annual Banquet/
Business Meeting

On Tuesday, April 17th, at 6:30 p.m., on the 11th floor of the Houston Cole Library, the Gamma of Alabama Graduate Association of Phi Beta Kappa will hold its annual banquet and business meeting.

As in the previous years, the banquet will be preceded by a "wine and cheese" reception for our Phi Beta Kappa sponsored speaker (5:30 - 6:30 p.m.) at the JSU Alumni House.

The 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. banquet will be followed by the Phi Beta Kappa Public Lecture at 8:00 p.m.

The Association's guest of honor this year will be Dr. Samuel Katz, the Wilburt Cornell Davison Professor and Chairman emeritus of Pediatrics at Duke University, who will speak at 8:00 p.m. on the topic "The AIDS Plague." (Known for his work with NIH and WHO, Katz' career has been devoted to infectious disease research. Katz worked with Nobel Laureate John F. Enders for twelve years. During that time, they developed the attenuated measles vaccine now in use world-wide.) His informative and wide-range talk will follow the progress of the research currently being done in major research centers around the globe. He will also discuss the world conditions that promote the outbreak, revival, and dissemination of infectious diseases. This talk is sponsored by the Phi Beta Kappa Fellows Lectureship.

The banquet will include the awarding of Gamma Chapter's Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship, which will be given to an outstanding junior at JSU. Our group has also been given the honor to designate a student to receive the Theron E. Montgomery Scholarship.
