SBDC Presents Seminar To Help Small Businesses Secure Lucrative Contracts


JACKSONVILLE -- February 20, 2001 -- On Thursday, March 8, 2001, the Jacksonville State University Small Business Development Center will conduct a one-day seminar on how to become certified as a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) and Small Business Administration (SBA) 8 (a) contractor in order to qualify to do business with the government.

The seminar, co-sponsored by the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) will be held from 8:45 a.m. - 3:00p.m. at the Best Western Inn in Oxford, Alabama. Speakers will include Paul Gunn of Paul Gunn Business Consulting (PGBC) in Huntsville and Kaye Burrow with SBA in Birmingham. PGBC is a SBA approved third party Private Certifier and assists small businesses in the SDB certification process. Speakers will discuss procedures and requirements to become certified as a SDB and SBA 8 (a) contractor. These programs are designed to help small, disadvantaged businesses secure their share of many contracts for goods and services offered by the federal government and prime contractors.
