Fellowships Awarded to JSU Grad Students

JACKSONVILLE -- February 16, 2001 -- Two of JSU's finest have received the 2000 Order of Omega Fellowship.

The Fellowship program was established in 1987 for Greek advisors. These fellowships were created to recognize the dedication of Greek advisors to Greek life and encourage their academic goals. To date, the National Order of Omega has awarded 83 fellowships totaling $56,750.

Recipients of the 2000 Order of Omega Advisor Fellowships were announced at the Order's Omega reception held during the annual meeting of the Association of Fraternity Advisors and National Interfraternity Conference in Phoenix. The Order presented two $1,000 Doctoral Fellowships, one $750 Master's Fellowship and six $500 Graduate Assistant Fellowships; a total of $5,750 in fellowships.

Cara Dawn Byford received the $750 Master's Fellowship. She was initiated into the Order & Phi Mu at the University of North Alabama. Currently, she is working on her Master's in Student Personnel at JSU, where she is also the Assistant Director of Student Activities.

The $500 Graduate Assistant Fellowship was awarded to Don Killingsworth. Don is working on his Master's in the College of Education & Professional Studies and is also a Graduate Assistant in the Office of Student Activities. He is also a member of the Order & Delta Chi at JSU.

To receive these fellowships, Don and Cara Dawn had to go through an application process, which included recommendations from their professors.
