Gen. Larry E. Lee Chosen as President of JSU ROTC Alumni Association









JACKSONVILLE -- January 26, 2001 -- Major General Larry E. Lee (retired) has been elected president of the Jacksonville State University ROTC Alumni Association.

A Gadsden native, General Lee is a graduate of Glencoe High School. He is a Distinguished Military Graduate of Jacksonville State University and has his master's degree from the University of Alabama. He is a graduate of the Armor Officers Basic and Advanced Courses, The Command and General Staff College, and the Air War College.

He enlisted in the Alabama National Guard while a student at Jacksonville State and was discharged as a Master Sergeant upon being commissioned a second lieutenant, armor, in the regular army. After eight years of active duty, and with assignments spanning from Texas to Germany, he returned to the Alabama National Guard. His command experience included platoon, company, battalion, and brigade level. He retired in 1995 as commander, Troop Command, Alabama National Guard. He is also retired from Republic Steel Corporation and Gadsden State Community College.

Some of his awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement with Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, distinguished Service Medal of Alabama with Oak Leaf Clusters, Alabama Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Veterans Service Medal of Alabama with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Faithful Service Medal of Alabama with one Silver Saint Andrews Cross and three Bronze Saint Andrews Crosses.

General Lee and his wife, Nancy, live in Ohatchee. They have one son and two daughters, all graduates of Jacksonville State University.
