Cole Drive to Close in Preparation for
Housing/Stadium Construction

Last week, the Jacksonville City Council approved the vacation of Cole Drive, clearing the way for construction to begin on the housing/stadium project.

Contractors will begin installing construction fencing at the site this week and Cole Drive will be closed past Dillon Field to the east end of the Stadium. Upon completion of the fence, Cole Drive will be closed and eliminated along the south side of the stadium.

Fencing will begin at the west end of Cole Drive and move south, then east along Mountain Street, N.W., and finally north up Cole Drive. According to Frank W. Gruber, senior construction manager for contractor Volkert and Associates, Cole Drive will be left open as long as possible. Appropriate signage and road barricades will be posted to reduce the risk of accidents; however, drivers in the area are reminded to proceed with caution.
