University Will Be Represented in "Dancing With Our Stars" Charity Event

The Anniston Morning Rotary is hosting a "Dancing With Our Stars" competition on October 25 at 7 p.m. at the Anniston High School Auditorium. Jacksonville State University will be well represented! President Meehan, Earl Warren, and Pete Conroy are participating in this event and are working hard on their dance routines.

Visit the web site to see the entire cast of stars and dancers. Click on your favorite star, watch their practice video, and vote! Funds donated during this event will go to four local charities: Family Link's HIPPY Program; Concern for Children, Inc.; PreSchool Friends; and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library (administered by the United Way of East Central Alabama). All charities support childhood literacy.

Research indicates that 17-20% of our nation's children experience substantial difficulties in learning to read, and that more than a third of students in fourth grade (and nearly 70% in some low-income urban schools) read below the basic level. Children who are not fluent readers by fourth grade are likely to continue struggling with reading into adulthood, making early identification and intervention of reading problems essential to a child's success in both school and society. Prisons can now determine their future occupancy rates by third grade literacy scores!

By your support of this event you are helping to make a difference in the lives of children. The stars and dancers are certainly doing their part. Show your appreciation for their hard work and support this cause by voting! The dancer with the most votes wins. Each vote is $1. Your vote is tax deductible if you pay by check. Visit the web site to check on the current vote tally!

Tickets to the Dancing competition are $20 for adults, $12 for students and $60 for a VIP Admission with Reception. Tickets are on sale at Couch's Jewelers, Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, Regional Medical Center Business Center (main lobby) and Joy Christian Supplies (Jacksonville). See the web site for details for purchasing them online or by mail.

Good luck to President Meehan, Earl Warren, Pete Conroy, and the entire cast of "Dancing With Our Stars." See you on October 25!
