Deidra Tidwell, '01/'03/'06
Young Alumna of the Year
As a JSU student, Ms. Tidwell was an active member of the Greek community and held several positions within her fraternity, Alpha Omicron Pi, including that of chapter president. She was also a member, and later the coordinator, of the JSU Orientation team.
After completing her undergraduate degree in secondary education with a focus on English, Ms. Tidwell began work on her Master's degree in Student Affairs and School Counseling and became a graduate assistant in the Office of Student Life. While in that position, she advised the SGA Freshman Forum, helped with the coordination of Freshman Orientation, the Miss JSU Pageant, Panhellenic Formal Recruitment, homecoming activities and other events sponsored by the Office of Student Life. Also, she was the first director of the Panhellenic House and helped improve the relationships among all five Panhellenic sororities.
Even after leaving JSU to begin her career in school counseling, Ms. Tidwell continued to remain involved with the university community. She continued aiding Alpha Omi-cron Pi by serving as an international volunteer and working with three chapters as a Collegiate Network Specialist. She has also recently returned to JSU's chapter as recruitment advisor.
In 2006, Ms. Tidwell earned her third degree from JSU-- her Ed.S in School Counseling.
Ms. Tidwell currently works as an elementary counselor in the Albertville City Schools, and she has successfully piloted and coordinated several programs that have been implemented in her school. There, she serves as testing coordinator and is a member of the school's leadership team, a position that allows her to plan for the immediate and future success of her students. Also, Ms. Tidwell has recently completed the prestigious National Board Certification for School Counselors
