Take a Friend to the Health Fair

 

Counseling and Career Services, University Housing and Residence Life, and the JSU Peer Educators are sponsoring an event called "Take a Friend to the Health Fair" on Tuesday, September 16, in Theron Montgomery Building (TMB) Auditorium, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

This annual event is linked to the national "Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day." Various agencies throughout the county are participating in this outreach project for all Calhoun County residents. This year marks the sixth annual Health Fair at JSU. Over 250 students, faculty, and staff attended the Health Fair last year.

Free services include HIV/AIDS testing, cholesterol testing, diabetes testing, blood pressure checks, and Prostate Specific Antigen blood testing. Free vision screenings, dental screenings, and depression screenings will also be available. Please be aware that a large turnout is expected, and free services will be administered on a first come, first served basis.

Organizations participating in this year's Health Fair include: Dr. Terry Bonds (Optometrist), Dr. David Wade (Chiropractor), NAMI Jacksonville, Abbott Pharmaceuticals, Daybreak Crisis Center, 2nd Chance, Inc., Regional Medical Center, Health Services Center (Hobson City), Calhoun County Health Department, Calhoun County Extension Services, Calhoun County Mental Health Center, Sarrell Regional Dental Center, Curves of Jacksonville, and Club Fitness Jacksonville.

JSU organizations that will be participating include Student Health Center, Residence Hall Association, Disability Support Services, Nursing Department, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Wellness Center, Peer Educators, Counseling & Career Services, and the JSU NAACP Chapter.

Assistance and information will be available for those who are interested in the following topics:

-- Breast Cancer Awareness

-- Heart Disease Information
-- Tuberculosis
-- Fibromyalgia
-- Weight Management

Free refreshments will be available and door prizes will be given away.
