CAST Theatre Announces Varied 2008-2009 Season

CAST (Community Actor’s Studio Theatre) Theatre of Anniston is proud to announce a varied upcoming season that will sure to delight audience members of all ages and backgrounds.

The fun all begins in September with the Rogers and Hammerstein classic The Sound of Music. It is the story of a novice named Maria and her transition into the home of the musical Von Trapp family. Immortalized in film with Julie Andrews as the novice-turned-nanny, this family favorite features songs such as “Do-Re-Mi,” “The Sound of Music,” “My Favorite Things,” and “Edelweiss”.  The Sound of Music runs Thursdays through Sundays, September 4-21.

Beginning October 23 and running each Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until November 9, CAST presents The Lady with All the Answers, by David Rambo.

Based on the letters and autobiography of advice columnist Ann Landers, this funny and touching one-woman play takes a look at Ms. Landers as she prepares to share life-changing personal secrets with her readers.

In December, CAST welcomes back the musical Sanders family in Sanders’ Family Christmas, the sequel to the popular Smoke on the Mountain. It is now the Christmas of 1941 and the family is playing together for the last time before their only son reports for military duty. The performers will be sure to bring the great old-time music and silly antics the audiences loved in Smoke on the Mountain. Performed Thursdays through Sundays December 4-21 Sanders’ Family Christmas is presented as an extra in the CAST season and it is not included in the season ticket price. However, tickets for Sanders Family Christmas can be purchased at a discount when purchasing season tickets.

CAST takes a page from the “gender-bending” comedies of William Shakespeare and Billie Wilder with its first production of 2009, Ken Ludwig’s Leading Ladies. Like the heroines made popular by Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis in Wilder’s Some Like it Hot, the ladies of this comedy’s title are actually two gentleman trying to pool the wool (or in this case a con) over everyone else’s eyes. Of course the switch up results in much hilarity for everyone involved! Leading Ladies runs Thursdays through Sundays, January 29- February 15, 2009.

The final production of CAST’s 2008-09 season is Blues to Broadway, an original musical revue created by CAST Artistic Director Kimberley Dobbs and Michael Fauss, Musical Director and Conductor at the Alliance Theatre Company in Atlanta, Georgia. During this musical experience, audience members will be treated to renditions of several of their favorite blues standards, classic Broadway showstoppers and new hits from recent musicals of the Great White Way.

Blues to Broadway runs Thursdays through Sundays, April 23- May 10 of 2009.

All CAST productions are held in McClellan Theatre, 100 Gamecock Drive, Anniston. Thursday, Friday and Saturday productions begin at 8:00 p.m.  with the curtain rising at 2:30 p.m. for Sunday matinees. Season tickets are $50 for adults and $30 for students with individual prices per show set at $20 per adult and $10 for students for musicals and $15 per adult and $8 per for student for non-musicals. Group rates are available for parties of 12 or more individuals. All Thursday night shows are produced for “Pay-What-You-Want” admission.
