Re: New Tuition Assistance Policy Effective Fall 2009 Term

Date: April 30, 2009

The Office of Human Resources is pleased to announce the new tuition assistance policy as an enhancement to the Jacksonville State University employee benefits program. The full details of the new policy may be found in the Manual of Policies and Procedures I:03:02.

Summary of the Enhancements

• Graduated assistance schedule based on prior year (or most recent year attended) institutional GPA. Only one request per academic year is required.

• First time freshmen and first time transfer students will continue to receive 50% assistance for the first academic year (or portion thereof if less than a full academic year).

Undergraduate students:
• 100% assistance 3.5 - 4.0
• 75% 2.5 - 3.49
• 50% 2.0 - 2.49

Graduate students:
• 100% 3.70 - 4.0
• 75% 3.34 - 3.69
• 50% 3.00 - 3.33

• Tuition assistance applies to a percentage of classroom tuition rates. Students will be charged the difference between classroom and distance education rates.

• Failure to meet minimum institutional GPA will result in loss of benefits for the next academic year, but will not require assistance reversal for the failed term.

• The new Request for Assistance form may be found on the Human Resources Forms page, http://www.jsu.edu/hr/hrforms.html under the Miscellaneous Benefits section.

• Make requests for assistance to the Office of the Registrar after the last day to register for Summer II (July 9, 2009 this year) but PRIOR to the beginning of the academic term requested. There will be NO retroactive tuition assistance.

• The prior year institutional GPA will be calculated after all summer course work is completed and the form then forwarded to the Office of Human Resources for employee or dependent verification. The maximum assistance eligibility for the academic year will be applied to the student's financial aid record by the Office of Financial Aid.
