CAST Presents Steel Magnolias
at McClellan Theatre

CAST Theatre will presents Steel Magnolias, playwright Robert Harling's ode to the resiliency of Southern women, April 30 - May 10 at the McClellan Theatre in Anniston.

Steel Magnolias is a story of the friendship of six southern women who share their secrets and a spritz of gossip. Every event in their lives, from the mundane to the essential, is faced with grace, strength and perfectly done hair. In the face of tragedy, they turn to each other for solace and support. Steel Magnolias is a celebration of love, loyalty, strength and the bonds of sisterhood.

Although still a very popular and much-in-demand play, Steel Magnolias is probably best known for its adaptation into the 1989 film starring Dolly Parton, Sally Field and Julia Roberts that won the 1990 People's Choice Award.

The action of the play is set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager assistant, Annelle; the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, Ouiser; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is facing the challenges of her own.

Denise Davis of Jacksonville plays M'Lynn; Hope Miles-Jamison of Heflin portrays Shelby; Jennie Wall of Anniston plays Truvy; Michelle Deese, of Jacksonville plays Annelle; and Heflin's own Lolly Payne and Debby Matthews portray longtime friends Ouiser and Clairee. CAST artistic director Kimberley Dobbs directs.

CAST's production of Steel Magnolias runs Thursday - Sunday, April 30 - May 10, with curtain rising at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and at 2:30 p.m. matinees on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are $15.00 for adults and $8.00 for students. Group discounts are available for parties of 12 or more individuals. All Thursday night performances at CAST are presented for Pay-What-You-Want admission.
