ABDUCTED:
Saturday Night Camping Event
Will Focus on Abducted Ugandan Children

Thousands of Ugandan children-- 30,000 to date-- have been stolen by the Lord's Resistance Army and forced to become soldiers in a senseless war. The war they are fighting has waged on for 23 years, and more children are abducted daily. These Children are 'invisible' because no records of births or age are kept in Uganda.

Through films produced by the non-profit organization Invisible Children, this very real civil rights tragedy taking place on the other side of the globe is staying in the world's eye.

On Saturday, April 25, the students of Jacksonville State University's Wesley Foundation will join the global effort to call attention to the crisis by "abducting themselves" for a night to hold a peace rally, view videos and conduct a Congressional letter-writing campaign in the field adjacent to the Foundation on Pelham Road North. Live music is also on tap for the event.

Ryan Rutledge, one of the organizers, invites all JSU students to bring their sleeping and camping gear and participate in the event, which begins at 8 p.m.

"We are going to displace ourselves in the field next to Wesley Foundation. By 'displacing' we mean taking sleeping bags, tents, anything to become displaced, and many of us will be spending the night out there. This will be done in a respectful manner and in remembrance of the children that have been taken by the LRA," Rutledge said.

For more information or to sign up, contact Rutledge at (404) 520-4504. Walk-ins are also welcome.
