Free Campus Emergency Preparedness Training Offered on May 12-13

Successful prevention of, deterrence, response to and recovery from incidents within the campus community are contingent upon campus and community leaders recognizing beforehand the importance of an integrated approach. Recent national events have demonstrated that campuses are not exempt from dealing with crises and threats. The University Police Department will host a workshop titled "Executive Seminar: Prevention of, Response to, and Recovery from Campus Emergencies" on May 12 -13 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. in Room 1101-C of the Houston Cole Library.

This seminar will be taught by the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training (NCBRT), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's training partner, which provides high-quality training to emergency responders throughout the United States and its territories under the NCBRT's Homeland Security National Training Cooperative Agreement.

This two-day seminar is intended to provide campus leaders, faculty/student governance, campus law enforcement/security, campus health/ mental health services, campus public affairs, jurisdictional law enforcement and public safety, and jurisdictional public information officers with an understanding and ability to navigate through the difficult aspects of dealing with campus emergencies such as man-made or natural events, including acts of violence.

The seminar will consist of small, integrated group activities that are problem-based and will require a coordinated, integrated approach in order to solve. This course will allow a maximum of 45 participants and will provide 1.6 CEUs. To register for this class, please email the following information to mcarmich@jsu.edu by April 21, 2009:
