Beta Gamma Sigma Inducts 20 Student Scholars, Extends Honorary Membership to JSU Trustee James Coxwell

The Jacksonville State University (JSU) Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma inducted 20 student scholars and one honorary inductee on Tuesday, April 7 at the Merrill Building on the JSU Campus. Beta Gamma Sigma, established in 1913, is the international honor society for students enrolled in programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), and is the business equivalent of the liberal arts honor society, Phi Beta Kappa.

Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest honor bestowed upon graduate and undergraduate business students at institutions where the business programs are accredited by AACSB International. Students who qualify for membership are in the top 10 percent of baccalaureate students and the top 20 percent of graduate students. There are over 450 Beta Gamma Sigma chapters throughout the world, with collegiate chapters on five continents.

Mr. James Coxwell, local businessman and entrepreneur, and JSU Trustee, was selected as the first JSU Chapter Honoree in its 10 year history. Mr. Coxwell told the student inductees, “As you begin your careers -- work hard, get involved in civic and local activities, and give back to your school and community.”

Ms. Amy Alicia Anderson of Anniston, a MBA student at JSU, was awarded the BGS Scholarship for 2009-2010.
