JSU Greek Community Excels at Academics

During the Greek Awards Ceremony on April 2, 2009, 51 students were recognized for achieving a cumulative GPA of a 3.5 or higher during the fall and spring of 2008.

The following ten students were recognized for maintaining a cumulative GPA of a 4.0:

Laura Bufton, Alpha Xi Delta; Jeannette Castillo, Zeta Tau Alpha; Lydia Elkins, Zeta Tau Alpha; Courtney Gossage, Zeta Tau Alpha; Micah Pittman, Sigma Nu; Rachael Tate, ?Alpha Omicron Pi; Cassandra Tierce, Zeta Tau Alpha; Morgan Whetstone, Alpha Omicron Pi; and Jennifer Wood, Phi Mu.

Our community made record breaking accomplishments in the area of academics this past year. The Sorority Average of 2.84 exceeds the Undergraduate Women’s Average of 2.65 as well as the Fraternity Average of 2.68 exceeds the Undergraduate Men’s Average of 2.39, which gives our community an overall average of 2.81 compared to the undergraduate average of 2.55. The evidence is in the numbers: Greeks make better Grades.

The following chapters improved their chapter GPA by at least .20 or higher and were awarded the most improvde grade point average: Alpha Omicron Pi, Pi Kappa Phi, Sigma Nu, Zeta Phi Beta, and Zeta Tau Alpha. Alpha Omicron Pi and Sigma Nu was award the Highest New Member GPA award due to their new member average beginning above the all Greek average of 2.81. The highest academic awards were given to three chapters for the Highest Grade Point Average. Congratulations to Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Omicron Pi, and Sigma Nu.
