CASE Announces 2009 Call for Entries
for U.S. Professors of the Year

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) announces its call for entries for the 2009 U.S. Professors of the Year Awards Program.

The U.S. Professors of the Year awards honor our nation's best undergraduate teachers-- those who excel as educators and influence the lives and careers of their students. Sponsored by CASE and the The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, it is the only national program to recognize excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, according to CASE.

All undergraduate teachers in the United States, of any academic rank at private or public undergraduate institutions, are eligible for the award. However, they cannot throw their own hat into the ring. Nominators must be members of the campus faculty or school administration. Entries are judged by top U.S. educators and other active participants on the educaiton scene. In 2008, the program recognized 50 winners-- four national winners and state winners in 44 states, the District of Columbia and Guam.

CASE launched the awards program in 1981. That same year, The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching began hosting the final round of judging, and in 1982 became the primary sponsor.

Winners for U.S. Professors of the year receive $5,000 plus an all-expenses paid trip to the nation's capital with a guest and a current or former student, including invitations to speak at the 2009 awards luncheon in Washington, D.C. and attend and be recognized at an early-evening congressional reception. The winner also will be recognized in the media and will receive a framed certificate.

State Professors of the Year will be invited to the awards luncheon and congressional reception for the winner and a guest, where they will be recognized. State winners will also receive media recognition and personalized award certificates.

The deadline for nomination is April 17.
