Graduate Students Present
at College English Association Conference

Four JSU graduate students from Dr. Andrea Porter's Fall 2008 Introduction to Graduate Studies in English class recently attended the 70th Annual College English Association Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 26-28.

Students Matt Byers, Whitney Abernathy, Meghan Williams, and Katelyn Williams presented a panel titled "Designing Sylvia Plath," using their papers from Dr. Porter's class. The panel was well attended and received, and the students' papers are being considered for the annual Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Award.

Dr. Andrea Porter also attended the conference and presented a paper titled "(De)signing the Contemporary Female Soldier." Her paper on the book Jarhead received an Honorable Mention at the 2008 CEA Conference for the James R. Bennett Award for Literature and Peace. Her 2009 conference paper is again under consideration for this award.
