JSU, EARPDC Team Up for
Terrorism Assessment Workshop

Terrorism in Anniston?
March 25, 2009 - 1-4 p.m.
Anniston Meeting Center

The Jacksonville State University Office of Continuing Education is hosting a workshop in partnership with the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission. The workshop will provide a background discussion on terrorism and review the considerations for a vulnerability assessment. A vulnerability assessment identifies critical infrastructure and key assets, and quantifies and ranks the vulnerable systems in an area. Some systems we might consider as vulnerable are key facilities, critical information technology, water supply, transportation infrastructure, and communication systems.

One method of assessing risk is to consider the following steps:
1. List assets and capabilities
2. Assign a value to those assets
3. Identify potential threats to each
4. Mitigate the most serious vulnerabilities for the most valuable resources

A vulnerability assessment not only calculates both the consequences for the asset as well as on primary and secondary consequences for the surrounding area.

This workshop is a must-have for anyone involved in risk assessment in either the public or private sectors.

You can see from our presenter's bio that the information presented will be both valuable and thought-provoking.
