Local Author Gene L. Howard to Speak
at Friends of Houston Cole Library
Spring Program

Jacksonville State University Friends of Houston Cole Library will present author Gene L. Howard on Tuesday, January 27, at 7 p.m. in Houston Cole Library - Room 1103 B.

Howard is the author of four books: Death at Cross Plains: An Alabama Reconstruction Tragedy; History of Rubber Workers: Gadsden, Alabama; Pleasant Gap: A Place An Experience; and Patterson for Alabama: The Life and Career of John Patterson. His work also includes the PBS docudrama, Wayfaring Stranger.

Howard's topic for the evening will be "Human Rights Change in Alabama: 1954-1966." The basis for this address is his latest book, Patterson for Alabama: The Life and Career of John Patterson. As governor, John Patterson was progressive and responsible for numerous positive changes in the state, which benefited blacks and whites. This book documents Patterson's contribution to the state as well as his most serious political blunders.

Copies of Patterson for Alabama: The Life and Career of John Patterson will be available for purchase and signing, and refreshments will be served.

This event is free and open to the public.
