Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Residual ACT?

The Residual ACT is an additional testing option administered between the National ACT testing dates that are offered on campus.

Who is Eligible & What is it's Purpose?

The Residual ACT is designated for students that have been admitted to JSU, and it's main purpose is to aid our current full-time students in attaining appropriate scores for program admission.

Is Residual ACT Testing Different from the National ACT?

There is no difference between the tests that are administered during National or Residual ACT testing. However, there is a difference between the score reporting option. Residual ACT scores are directly reported to JSU and cannot be transferred to another institution or be used for NCAA eligibility.

How Often is it Given?

Testing dates are limited.  Residual ACT tests are not given during months when a National ACT testing date is available on campus, and must be administered 60 days apart from the previous Residual ACT test date.

Is the Residual ACT an Option if I Plan to Attend JSU in the Future?

All potential JSU students that are not currently enrolled at the institution are encouraged to sign up for our National ACT testing opportunities offered on campus. Current full-time students receive priority registration for the Residual ACT and typically fill all of the spots.

  • JSU Testing Services will provide scores as soon as they become available.
  • Residual testing is not accepted for NCAA initial eligibility.
  • If you have taken the Residual ACT and want to take it again, you must wait 60 days. If the 60-day time limit is violated, the retest scores will be canceled automatically. No refund will be given for such cancellations.
  • You may reschedule your test date once. If you do not take the Residual ACT on the rescheduled date, you will forfeit your registration fee. Registration fees are only good for the testing year in which they were purchased. You must email testingservices@jsu.edu to reschedule. You will not automatically be added to the next roster.
  • No cell phones or other electronic devices (including smart watches) are allowed while testing. No hooded shirts/pockets.  If one of these are discovered during testing, you will be dismissed.
