Acceptance to the Master of Social Work Program

Policy

The Master of Social Work (MSW) program and the Office of Graduate Studies work together to guide students through the application and admission process. All applications are submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies and completed applications are sent to the MSW Admissions Committee for review and acceptance decisions. Applicants to the MSW program must meet both JSU Graduate admission requirements and MSW program admission requirements.

Procedure

  1. Complete the online application for admission through the Office of Graduate Studies.
  2. When the Office of Graduate Studies receives a completed application it is sent to the MSW Program Director.
  3. The MSW Program Director assigns the completed application to members of the MSW Admissions Committee which consists of three (3) senior faculty.
  4. The MSW Admissions Committee reviews all materials and provides one of three recommendations to the MSW Program Director: Admission, Denial or Conditional Admission.
  5. If the recommendation is:
      • for Admission, the applicant will be contacted by the MSW Program Director or a member of the MSW Admissions Committee by email and/or postal mail.
      • for Denial, the applicant will be contacted by the MSW Program Director or a member of the MSW Admissions Committee by email and/or postal mail.
      • for Conditional Admission, the applicant must follow the requirements specified in the Conditional Admission section of MSW Program Manual. The applicant is not eligible for the One-Year Advanced Standing program. The applicant will be contacted by the MSW Program Director or a member of the MSW Admissions Committee by email and/or postal mail.

Notifications to applicants will be sent within 7 to 10 days of the decision using email or postal mail.
