Career and Internship Resource Communities
The College of Science and Mathematics has developed resource communities to assist students in their search for career and internship. The MCAT is the medical school entrance exam. Information for the exam can be found at the link, Taking the MCAT Exam, listed below. Students from all educational backgrounds can take the exam. However, students with a background in the sciences are best positioned to succeed. Other links listed below will help students in their preparation for the exam.

The Dental Admission Test (DAT) is the entrance exam for dental school. While not often discussed, dental school can be an excellent choice for students. With an excellent job outlook and a 2020 median pay of $164,010 per year (Dentists : Occupational Outlook Handbook: : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov)) the dental occupation can be accessed by doing the proper work. Students should keep in mind any deadlines, applications, and other materials that are needed for dental school.
Veterinarian school requires one of three exams for entrance: GRE, MCAT, VCAT. Vet school is another option for students in the sciences to explore. A career as a vet may be very rewarding and provide satisfaction. Students with a strong background in biology and chemistry may find themselves interested in vet school if they do not wish to pursue another degree.
JSU offers degrees in Biology. The biology program encourages students to gain experience by performing internships. Internships may take the form of summer research opportunities. Students are encouraged to travel outside of Alabama. In applying to research programs, students must be aware of program deadlines, application packets, and other materials.
