Dr. Tim King


Dr. Timothy King has served in several roles at JSU since 2007, including Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs (2007 – 2014), Vice President for Student Affairs (2014 – 2020) and currently the university’s Vice President for Student Success (2020 – present). As Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs Dr. King spearheaded initiatives to support enhanced student persistence and engagement such as Freshman Convocation, required New Student Orientation, First Year Experience Course, Leadership House for Women, Student Health Center and Behavioral Concerns Team.

As Vice President for Student Affairs from 2014-2020 Dr. King oversaw an expanded role for student affairs at JSU by leading partnership efforts to create connections for students such as the Recreation Center, Multicultural Center, Safe Zone Project, Gamecock Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, Maternity Closet, Dean of Students, Title IX Coordinator, Community Standards & Student Ethics and Military & Post Traditional Student Services.

As JSU’s first Vice President for Student Success, Dr. King oversees the university’s retention and persistence efforts through holistic programs and services. The key piece for student success is the JSU Student Success Center, located in the Houston Cole Library, where the division team provide Tutoring & Academic Support, Supplemental Instruction, Services for Students with Disabilities, New Student Orientation, First & Second Year Experience Programs, Success Courses, Learning Assistance, Fall Bridge Program, Testing Services, Student Athlete Development, Success Coaching, Retention Technology, and Academic Advising Coordination.

Dr. King has a B.A. in Philosophy from St. Joseph’s Seminary College, M.S. in Counseling & Human Development from Troy University and Ph.D. in Counselor Education from The University of Alabama. Dr. King has been active with NASPA since 2001 and served on the NASPA VPSA Initiatives Group for 2019-2020 and NASPA/Penn GSE Institute for Higher Education’s Future in 2016-2017. He is also a Peer Reviewer for SACSCOC, President of the Board of Directors for Highland Health Systems and an avid trail runner.

Prior to joining JSU, Dr. King held positions at the University of Dayton, University of Arkansas, University of Alabama at Birmingham and The University of Alabama.
