Military & Post-Traditional Student Services (MPTSS) provides Veterans and Military Education Benefits counseling, academic and career support services, social engagement opportunities, and advocacy for all Adult Learners, Commuter Students, Military-Connected Students, Students with Children, and Transfer Students at JSU.

Justin Parker

Justin Parker, Director

Justin joined JSU as Director in April of 2016.  Justin enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years as an Electronic Warfare technician on the EC-130H airframe.  He has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Winona State University and a Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Arizona.  Prior to joining JSU, Justin worked at both the University of Arizona and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in various student support roles with both graduate and military-connected students.

Tashua Dennis

Tashua Dennis, Counselor

Tashua is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Master Social Worker.  She began her career in the helping field in 2000 after earning the Bachelor of Social Work from JSU.  She is excited to be able to give back to JSU students as the Wellness Counselor for Veteran Services.  Her aim is to provide a safe and welcoming environment so students can begin to address distressing issues they may face during their transition from service to college.

Ashley Figueroa Rivera

Ashley Figueroa Rivera, Coordinator of Military Student Services

Ashley joined the Alabama Army National Guard one month after the September 11, 2001 attacks and served as a carpenter and mason.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Language from JSU.  Ashley has been a part of JSU since 2012 as both a VA work study student and our dedicated School Certifying Official.  She certifies enrollments to the VA, offers general advising to students, provides tours of the campus, explains basic JSU procedures, and reaches out to our students to ensure they are succeeding here at JSU.  

Gladys Richerzhagen

Gladys Richerzhagen, Military Benefits Specialist

Gladys was born in Guatemala and migrated to the United States when she was 10 years old. She graduated from California State University Northridge with a bachelor in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. She enlisted in the United States Navy and served from June 2010 to June 2014.  Gladys began working with Veteran Services in August of this year as a Program Assistant.  She advises and certifies the enrollment of our military-connected students, administers the tutoring program, coordinates events and marketing, creates training protocols, and acts as the first point of contact for students that visit the COEVSS.
