By Brian Lazenby JSU News Bureau JACKSONVILLE, AL -- May 21, 1999 -- Sixty-nine faculty members were honored for their outstanding research and scholarship during the annual Jacksonville State University Faculty Awards Banquet held recently in Leone Cole Auditorium. Honorees represented the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Commerce and Business Administration, College of Education and Professional Studies, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and the Houston Cole Library. The Faculty Research Committee recognized faculty members' outstanding scholarly and creative accomplishments in the past year. Their accomplishments included presentations at state and national meetings, publication of books and articles, performances and exhibitions, and the acquisition of grants. Carlton Ward of the drama department was chosen Outstanding Teacher for 1998-1999, and Dr. Ronald Hunter of the political science department was named Faculty Lecturer for 1999-2000. Anniston attorney Cleo Thomas spoke on the importance of transmitting knowledge and values through teaching and knowing that achievements are not measured in dollars and cents but gauged in creative and scholarly outputs. At the close of the ceremony, Ms. Linda Cain presented an award to President McGee on behalf of the Faculty Senate in appreciation for his accomplishments as President of JSU from 1986-1999.
