Phoenix, AZ native AJ Covey is a drummer and percussionist based in Birmingham, AL. He performs regularly with Rebecca Egeland in their duo, Rude & True, and produced and recorded their debut EP “Call It What You Want” in 2021. He is the drummer for the southern rock band Winston Ramble, and has performed with Early James, Wave the Ocean, Taylor Hunnicutt, Zach Austin, and many others. As a chamber musician, AJ has performed with the International Contemporary Ensemble, the New York Philharmonic “Off the Grid,” Yarn|Wire, and at the Stellenbosch Int’l Chamber Music Festival in South Africa. AJ’s teachers include Christopher Deane, Joe Gramley, Paul Rennick, Dave Hall, Jose Aponte, Poovalur Sriji, and Vidwan HL Shivashankar Swamy, whom he studied with in Mysore, India. He is the Director of Percussion at The University of Montevallo and is a proud alumnus of the University of North Texas, the University of Michigan, and the Santa Clara Vanguard.
